The Beauty Bank Charity Project

Group Reflections:
LO3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience. Students can articulate the stages from conceiving an idea to executing a plan for a CAS experience or series of CAS experiences. This may be accomplished in collaboration with other participants. Students may show their knowledge and awareness by building on a previous experience, or by launching a new idea or process.

Throughout this service activity, I have been able to learn how to initiate and plan a CAS experience. After deciding on our chosen activity, we contacted the Beauty Bank organisation to check what the requirements were in terms of drop off zones and accepted items. This was a new process for us, therefore we needed to let our peers and fellow members of the school community know about our activity so that we would receive an adequate amount of donations. After organising with Alexandra, our drop off supervisor, we drove to her house and dropped off our collected donations.

LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively. Students are able to identify, demonstrate and critically discuss the benefits and challenges of collaboration gained through CAS experiences.

Given that this was a group project, working collaboratively was essential. At some stages of planning and executing this CAS experience, it was difficult to organise the drop off time as well as assembly times to announce our project. Despite these minor issues, through this process I have been able to recognise the benefits of collaborating on a group project such as increasing efficiency and amalgamation of different ideas.

LO6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance. Students are able to identify and demonstrate their understanding of global issues, make responsible decisions, and take appropriate action in response to the issue, locally, nationally or internationally.

A main focus of this activity was making a global significance at a local level. We recognised that domestic violence towards women is a prevalent issue across the world as well as in Australia. As a result of this, we wanted to make a changed in the lives of those who are affected. By working with the Beauty Bank charity organisation, we were able to achieve this.

LO7 : Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions. Students show awareness of the consequences of choices and actions in planning and carrying out CAS experiences.

Throughout this CAS experience, I was able to recognise and consider the consequences of our actions. My group made a conscious effort to ensure that the way we helped women facing domestic violence was appropriate, effective and meaningful. Thus, we chose an organisation with experience and a methodology that is appropriate and shows awareness of the ethnic considerations.
